About the archive and Lab
Sound Paintings is an unofficial fan-made archive and interactive instrument. The album name and artists identify the historical subject. The modern interface explores broad ideas around synthetic rhythm, sequencing, sound transformation and echo; it is not a reconstruction of the original studio or a claim about equipment used on a particular recording.
Independence and third-party rights
The project is not affiliated with, authorized by or endorsed by Yello, its members, management, labels, publishers, Datasound or Spotify. All names, original recordings and original cover art remain with their respective rights holders. The archive mark is a separate geometric design; it is not the official Yello logo.
No original Yello masters, remix-contest stems, extracted Yellofier banks or copies of the original album sleeve are bundled. Historical factual claims and short contextual quotations have references on the Sources page. A fan disclaimer is not a licence to use third-party recordings, artwork or marks.
Starter sounds and your creations
The fourteen Sound Lab v2.7 starter worlds and the archive animation effects are synthesized by the supplied project code. They are not original Yello samples, copied recordings, or imitations of an identifiable real singer’s voice. You may play, adapt and include these synthesized starter sounds in your own musical compositions and performances, including published or commercial compositions. No exclusivity or third-party clearance is promised.
Sound Lab v2.7 contains a technical adapter for a future authorized ten-slot sample pack, but no third-party sample pack and no user sample-import UI are bundled. If a future pack is added, the person publishing it must have the necessary rights and permissions. Local technical processing would not by itself clear third-party material for distribution.
Responsible listening and data care
Begin at a low speaker or headphone volume. The Lab limits its digital output, but cannot know your amplifier setting or guarantee a safe acoustic sound level. Stop if playback is uncomfortable. Use Play/Pause or Stop and the output-level control; Reduced Motion uses a static field.
The current v2.7 Sound Lab keeps album-seed drafts only for the lifetime of the page. There is no server backup and no persistent project-save function in this release. Reloading the page discards those in-memory drafts.
Scope and availability
This free experimental instrument is supplied without a promise of fitness for professional production or uninterrupted availability. Playback, device performance and browser features depend on browser support. Nothing in this notice excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for intent, gross negligence or injury to life, body or health. Statutory rights remain unaffected.
External media
Official music is only reached through ordinary links or the optional Spotify embed on the archive page. The animation and Lab do not analyse Spotify recordings. The Privacy notice explains activation and removal of the optional player.
Current Lab data behavior
The v2.7 public Lab uses synthesized starter material, keeps edits in page memory and does not request microphone or user audio-file access. Full hosting information and data-protection rights are on the Privacy page.
